How to regain your mojo during uncertain times
With the world in uncharted territory, we all feel a little lost. If you’re looking for a way to refocus, the 4 Gs are a great way to take stock of what’s important. When we get through this period of adversity and uncertainty, where do you want to be?
Goals: Start by thinking about the goals you’ve set for yourself and your career. While the pandemic may force us to take a detour, there’s no need to abandon the long-term path to these outcomes. We need to find new and creative ways to accomplish our goals. Don’t lose sight of what you want to achieve, even if the timeline adjusts or the path changes.
Grit: Those who achieve in the face of adversity are able to do so because of a blend of passion and persistence called “grit.” When you experience challenges and hurdles while working toward your goals, it’s time to be find your grit. Rather than relying on or hoping for luck, talent, or timing, dig deep to find your tenacity, determination, and sense of spirit. Your strength and perseverance will be key to your success.
Gratitude: Take time to notice and reflect upon the people and circumstances that contribute to your quality of life. What are you thankful for? People who practice gratitude experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness, and even have stronger immune systems. Instead of lamenting the things you are missing out on, refocus on what brings you joy. To cultivate gratitude, try things like writing thank-you notes or keeping a gratitude journal. It’s a great time to count your blessings.
Generosity: Generosity is no longer the selfless act we’ve long thought it to be. Studies suggest that being generous is one key to living a happy and healthy life. The generosity that most benefits us isn’t measured in a dollar amount or a material gain. Offering sensitivity and empathy to another person is one of the most important kinds of generosity. When we see that our personal efforts are helping someone else, we gain from the experience of giving.
Try incorporating these 4 Gs into your daily life to regain your focus. What’s important to you? What do you want your future to look like? Instead of letting things fall apart, stay the course and you’ll reap the rewards.
